A sharp divergence defined the Tunis stock exchange today: SOTEMAIL jumped 4.2% to 2.00 TND, the best performance of the session, even as the TUNINDEX index slipped 0.14% to 18,384.58 points. That gap between a cyclical building-materials stock and a softer broad market captured the day’s real story: sector rotation in a session where 18 stocks rose, 32 fell, and 25 were unchanged.
SOTEMAIL’s rally came against a macro backdrop that remains difficult for Tunisian corporates. Brent crude fell 4.4% on the day to $111.61 a barrel, but it is still up 2.6% on the week. At the same time, the U.S. dollar strengthened 0.89% against the dinar to 3.0065 TND, while the euro climbed 3.66% to 3.3607 TND. For Tunisia, a net energy importer, that mix matters: a one-day drop in oil can support tactical buying in industrial names, but a stronger dollar and euro still raise imported input costs and keep pressure on margins.
