Sonatel and banks lift BRVM as Composite adds 0.2%

The BRVM Composite rose 0.2% to 399.84 on April 20, while the BRVM Principal gained 0.5% to 278.64, led by industrials up 0.95% and telecommunications up 0.4%, even as utilities fell 0.94%. Sonatel posted first-quarter profit of CFA114 billion, with consolidated revenue up 7% in the first quarter of 2026, according to Sika Finance and Financial Afrik. Financials stayed firm, with the sector index up 0.13% to 174.41, as Coris Bank reported a 36% rise in 2025 net profit, according to APAnews, and Ecobank posted more than $800 million in 2025 profit, according to Forbes Afrique and Jeune Afrique. Ecobank Côte d’Ivoire also earmarked nearly CFA49 billion for shareholder remuneration for 2025, Sika Finance, Financial Afrik and Zonebourse Suisse reported.
