
BRVM rises 1.16%, led by utilities up 5.77%

Gains were led by utilities, up 5.77% to 266.47 points, ahead of telecommunications at 121.51 (+2.07%) and energy at 172.17 (+2.01%), while industrials fell 1.19% to 215.09, according to market data. On earnings, SITAB reported stable first-half 2026 profit of CFA18 billion despite higher activity, according to Sika Finance. Separately, Bank of Africa BF, BN, ML and SN announced capital increases on Aug. 18, according to analyst notes, while Africa Intelligence reported Ecobank is counter-attacking after a first-instance ruling in its dispute with Wadivo in Cameroon.

The BRVM Composite rose 0.75% to 519.59 points on Aug. 20, while the BRVM Composite Total Return reached 208.11 points, also up 0.75%. Utilities led the market with a 3.94% gain to 293.79 points, ahead of energy at 174.87 points (+2.79%) and telecommunications at 128.72 points (+1.59%). The advance extended the move flagged by Sika Finance on Aug. 19, which said Sonatel generated CFA190 billion and pushed the market to a new high. On the corporate front, Sika Finance said SITAB posted stable first-half 2026 profit of CFA18 billion, while Financial Afrik reported ETI cut its board to 12 members and removed directors' term limits.

The move was led by utilities, up 6.08% to 282.66, and telecommunications, up 4.28% to 126.71, as Sika Finance reported Sonatel generated 190 billion CFA francs and pushed the market to a fresh high. Energy fell 1.18% to 170.13, while financial services slipped 0.05% to 243.36. On the corporate side, Financial Afrik said Ecobank Transnational Incorporated cut its board to 12 members from 15 and removed directors' term limits, while Sika Finance reported SITAB posted stable first-half 2026 profit of 18 billion CFA francs.
