
EGX 30 slips 0.79% despite a run of strong first-half earnings
The EGX 30 closed down 0.787% at 55,415.1 on Aug. 17, even as first-half earnings releases stayed broadly strong. Orascom Construction posted a 52% year-on-year jump in H1 2026 consolidated revenue and said backlog reached $10.9 billion, while quarterly profit came in at $61.9 million, according to Arab Finance and TradingView. Telecom Egypt reported 17% H1 revenue growth and a rise in Q2 profit, while Talaat Moustafa Group posted a 23% increase in first-half net profit, according to Telecompaper, TradingView and Zawya. Elsewedy Electric reported a 14.11% year-on-year rise in H1 consolidated profit and a 37% increase in sales, according to Arab Finance and Billionaires.Africa. On dealmaking, EFG Hermes advised eFinance on the strategic acquisition of Tamweely Financial Services, Zawya reported.
