The BRVM ended the week little changed, with the BRVM Composite Total Return at 213.26 points (+0.06%), but sector rotation intensified. Industrials rose 2.45% while financials fell 0.88%, as dividend announcements and Bank of Africa capital increases reshaped trading.
BRVM ends flat as industrials rise 2.45% and Ecobank posts 15% revenue growth
The BRVM Composite ended nearly flat at 530.06 points, up 0.02%, while the total return index added 0.06% to 213.26 points. Industrials led with a 2.45% rise to 219.59 points, ahead of telecommunications at 136.57 points (+1.43%), while financials fell 0.88% to 245.26 points and energy lost 0.91% to 176.26 points. The market narrative remained tied to Sonatel, which generated CFA190 billion according to Sika Finance after already accounting for more than 50% of the CFA4 billion traded on Aug. 4, extending the weekly rebound flagged by Dabafinance on Aug. 7. In financials, Ecobank reported H1 2026 revenue up 15% to $1.3 billion and pretax profit of $423 million, while net income at end-June reached CFA167 billion but was held back by risk costs, according to Sika Finance and Agence Ecofin; ETI also cut its board to 12 members, Financial Afrik reported.
BRVM rises 1.15%, lifted by Sonatel and financials
The BRVM Composite rose 1.15% to 529.94 points on Aug. 27, while the BRVM-30 gained 1.54% to 255.87 and the Composite Total Return added 1.21% to 213.13. The advance was led by telecommunications, up 2.98% to 134.64 points, after Sonatel had already pushed the market to a fresh high with 190 billion CFA francs generated, according to Sika Finance. Financials added 0.87% to 247.43 points as Ecobank reported first-half 2026 revenue up 15% to $1.3 billion and pretax profit of $423 million, while net income of 167 billion CFA francs was held back by risk costs, according to leFaso.net, Sika Finance and Agence Ecofin. Utilities fell 2.85% to 280.54 points and energy lost 1.42% to 177.88, while SITAB posted stable first-half profit of 18 billion CFA francs despite higher activity, according to Sika Finance.
