BRVM ends flat as industrials rise 2.45% and Ecobank posts 15% revenue growth

BRVM rises 1.15%, lifted by Sonatel and financials
The BRVM Composite rose 1.15% to 529.94 points on Aug. 27, while the BRVM-30 gained 1.54% to 255.87 and the Composite Total Return added 1.21% to 213.13. The advance was led by telecommunications, up 2.98% to 134.64 points, after Sonatel had already pushed the market to a fresh high with 190 billion CFA francs generated, according to Sika Finance. Financials added 0.87% to 247.43 points as Ecobank reported first-half 2026 revenue up 15% to $1.3 billion and pretax profit of $423 million, while net income of 167 billion CFA francs was held back by risk costs, according to leFaso.net, Sika Finance and Agence Ecofin. Utilities fell 2.85% to 280.54 points and energy lost 1.42% to 177.88, while SITAB posted stable first-half profit of 18 billion CFA francs despite higher activity, according to Sika Finance.
BRVM rises 0.17%, financials add 0.54% after fresh market high
The BRVM Composite rose 0.17% to 530.07 on Aug. 25, while the BRVM Composite Total Return gained 0.17% to 213.06 and the BRVM-30 added 0.19% to 256.23. Financials climbed 0.54% to 245.54 and utilities rose 0.53% to 286.25, offsetting a 1.61% drop in industrials to 219.4, after Sonatel booked CFA190 billion and pushed the market to a fresh high, according to Sika Finance. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated cut its board to 12 members and removed directors' term limits, according to Financial Afrik, while Africa Intelligence reports Ecobank is fighting back after a first-instance ruling in Cameroon in its dispute with Wadivo. On earnings, SITAB posted stable first-half profit of CFA18 billion despite higher activity, according to Sika Finance, while analyst notes dated Aug. 25 flagged capital increases at Bank of Africa units in Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali.
